Yuri Demetz, BMus

Yuri’s passion for performing as a concert pianist and composing his own music is well reflected in his teaching practice. Being a very enthusiastic teacher, he enjoys working with pupils of all skills and abilities ranging from complete beginners to advanced players, children to adults. Yuri aims to share his knowledge in piano lessons that are structured, but also creative and enjoyable.

As a composer, Yuri often includes improvisation during his lessons. He believes that this approach really encourages his students to express themselves in a creative way. Not only because it opens the door to a true music making, but it also helps his students to overcome technical difficulties in their piano playing. He carefully tailors the content of piano lessons to each pupil.

Throughout the years of thorough musical training, Yuri was taught by a number of distinguished piano tutors and experienced many different teaching methods himself. He studied piano performance at the Conservatorio Monteverdi in Bolzano, Italy, and he completed his Bachelor degree at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich (2019), where he he won the first prize at the Gladys Puttick Improvisation Competition.

Yuri is a great and very thoughtful teacher. He really cares and spends time to figure out what works best for me in my practice.
