Preparation for grade exams
Many students choose to take grade exams, as they provide an internationally recognised qualification and valuable feedback from experts. While exams are never compulsory, for those who decide to take them, we offer additional support and guidance to help students perform confidently and achieve their best results.
MOCK EXAMS
Mock exams are incredibly valuable in helping students feel confident and fully prepared for the real exam. We recommend all candidates take a mock exam beforehand.
During a mock exam, you’ll perform all elements of your exam in a realistic, exam-like setting. You’ll also receive written feedback based on ABRSM or Trinity College marking criteria, covering tone quality, musical expression, rhythm, tempo, technical ability, and overall performance.
Why and When to Take a Mock Exam
A mock exam is the best way to prepare for the real thing—it helps you feel relaxed and confident on the day. Plan your mock exam a few weeks before the official exam to give yourself time to refine your performance and address any challenges.

We host all our mock exams on a grand piano Andrea’s studio in Charlton.
MOCK EXAMS FEES (all grades)
30-minute appointment: £50
45-minute appointment: £66
The fee includes the mock exam itself, along with written feedback and personal guidance from our Head Tutor, Andrea. After the mock exam, you’ll have time to work with Andrea on any of your pieces or receive valuable tips on aural skills and sight-reading.

PIANO ACCOMPANISTS
Our tutors regularly accompany students at Blackheath Conservatoire and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich.
Accompanying a well-prepared student is straightforward and usually requires one rehearsal ahead of the exam, though additional rehearsals can be booked if desired. Rehearsal time can also include aural training, which many instrumentalists find very helpful.
Students will need to provide original piano parts, but we have all necessary materials for aural training if required.
For enquiries about accompanist availability, please email [email protected].
If you require an accompanist for an exam centre more than 3 miles from Blackheath or Greenwich, we recommend finding a local accompanist. We may still be able to assist, but an additional charge will apply to cover travel time and expenses.
